"Sis? Sorry to bother you at work, but you said. . . .Yeah, another one. He’s okay, though. Banged up the Cadillac’s all. . . . Be out of St. Joe tomorrow. . . . Observation, yeah. He's just shook up.
"I know, I know. Listen, listen. . . . I'm worried sick, too. He could've killed himself. Driving through the back of the garage is one thing. This time he drifts around that bend on Foster, sideswipes a tree. Next time he might hit a kid.
"Look, we have to make some decisions. I don't know if DMV's taking his license, but we have to get him from behind the wheel right now. . . . You know how he's going to take that. And then what?
“I'll do all I can to help with groceries and doc appointments, but I’m on the road 15 days a month. . . . I appreciate . . . no, forget it. Hey. You live in Florida. This is Oregon. . . . Aren't you’re dealing with work, a teenage—
"I can't ask you to drop everything and come help, Sis. But I can't do it all myself either. Maybe we’ll need to hire a live-in or someone to help with errands. It’ll get expensive. . . . A retirement village? I don’t know. . . . I'm not sure of anything—other than we need some help figuring out this mess, and we need it fast."
