Family Conflict Coaching

Silver Advisor Debbie ReinbergSilver Planet's family conflict coaching advisor, Debbie Reinberg, MAcc, has worked in the geriatric field since 1987. She first took mediation courses in 2005 through the Institute for Advanced Dispute Resolution (IADR) and assisted in curriculum development for IADR’s Healthcare/Eldercare Mediation course. In addition to elder mediation services, Debbie provides conflict management skills training programs for eldercare professionals, teaching frontline staff how to effectively address family conflicts that occur in their organization.

Every scenario that can be addressed through family conflict coaching is unique. Family members may quarrel over property distribution, end-of-life care, caregiving roles, living arrangements, level or method of care, decisions made (or not made) by a family member wielding power of attorney, etc. Too many families reach an impasse, resulting in long-lasting hostility and, sometimes, estrangement.

Unfortunately, it is often difficult to convince family members to resolve discord by meeting around a table with a professional. This is where conflict coaching can be invaluable. A conflict coach can give you some strategies (or direction) to address your family issues as you also gain clarity regarding your own methods of dealing with conflict.

Whatever the situation, Debbie will assist you in gaining the tools to help your family move past tension and anger. She will speak with you about your family's issues and offer concrete steps that you can take to help move everyone from conflict to solution-focused thinking. She will also help you evaluate your own approach to your family conflict and offer suggestions for adjustment, as appropriate.
