Press Releases
August 24, 2010
Bainbridge Island, WA – As the population ages, a growing number of baby boomers find themselves caring for their aging parents. Silver Planet® CEO Karen Klein notes that this often-unexpected responsibility leads to worry and stress:
"Boomers worry that Mom will fall when she's home alone, that Dad won't limit his driving to daytime, or that they don't understand Medicare well enough to get the most benefit.
"Although caregiving sites are numerous, they are primarily self-help resource guides and do not offer independent professional consultations to help boomers resolve their specific caregiving challenges.
“That's why we've initiated our unique Independent Living Issues pages and Silver Advisors™ service.”
The Independent Living Issues pages encompass Silver Planet's latest articles and blogs on falls, driving, Medicare, and other aging-related topics. The pages are updated often and include the work of nationally recognized writers and authorities.
Silver Advisors are independent professional geriatric care managers and other experts who provide phone consultations on preventing falls, navigating Medicare, evaluating senior driving challenges, and other issues boomers typically face while caring for an aging loved one.
Silver Advisors clarify concerns, suggest a plan of action, help prioritize next steps, and furnish personalized written reports and recommendations. The first 15 minutes of each consultation are free, and a money-back guarantee is offered.
"We believe our new initiative will prove invaluable," said Klein. "Boomers no longer have to waste hours looking for information or seeking expert assistance. Now they can come to a one-stop resource, access the information and professional expertise they need to help their parents, and reduce their own stress level in the process."

Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Bainbridge Island, WA – As many baby boomers age, they enter the "Sandwich Generation" and struggle to care for aging parents while maintaining careers and dealing with teenagers still at home. Complex family issues, a profusion of services, and health care red tape build frustration. Doubt, anger, running around in circles—it all adds up, resulting in stressful days and sleepless nights for the caregiver and less-than-ideal care for the senior in need. Boomers are too often left with nowhere to turn for help as the burden of myriad responsibilities crushes them.
Karen Klein, CEO of
Silver Planet®, a Web site dedicated to alleviating this growing societal issue, has a solution: Silver Advisors™.
"Silver Advisors are professional care managers who offer telephone consultations on various issues of interest to caregivers and seniors and provide personalized written reports summarizing discussions and recommendations. They clarify concerns, recommend a plan of action, and help prioritize next steps," according to Ms. Klein.
"To help introduce these services, Silver Advisors will be available for FREE, 30-minute problem-solving consultations from July 6 through July 9," she continued. "People just need to call (877) 458-3767 to make an appointment for their particular caregiving issues.
"Everyone worried about an aging parent or loved one should call, especially if they're tired of finding dead ends when looking for answers to caregiving questions. There's no reason to suffer alone. Often the best decision is to reach out for help," Ms. Klein concluded.

Bainbridge Island, WA – Silver Planet®, a Web site empowering boomers and seniors to age with choice, is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with the National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA). NADSA, a nonprofit group, is the leading voice of the rapidly growing adult day service industry, and it has created a database of more than 4,500 day service providers in every state and the District of Columbia.
This brand-new directory is available exclusively at Silver Planet.
Adult day centers provide a coordinated program of professional and compassionate care in a safe community setting that offers social and therapeutic activities, meals, transportation, and help with personal care. NADSA has made the process of finding a facility nearby much easier. The online directory allows you to click on any state to review a list of cities that offer day centers. Clicking on a city produces a list of providers and complete contact information.
"This is the only official adult day services directory published by the organization, and it has the most current list of these facilities," said Karen Klein, CEO of Silver Planet. "Adult day care is wonderful for the older adult because of the many services it offers, and it's a lifesaver for the caregiver in need of a break. Knowing what choices are out there is invaluable. We are thrilled to partner with this nonprofit and share this service with our readers. "
"Making information available to families is very important," said Sara Myers, managing director of NADSA. "Our partnership with Silver Planet is leading the way to ensure that essential long-term care information is accessible and usable. "
Partnering with NADSA is part of Silver Planet's new business initiative that builds on the comprehensive services it has been providing to seniors since 2008.

Bainbridge Island, WA – Silver Planet®, empowering boomers and seniors to age with choice, announces a new partnership with Life Events Media, which has created an online locator map that allows seniors and their caregivers to easily find assisted living facilities in a desired area. The Silver Planet Senior Housing Map enables you to search for a facility by state or ZIP code. It's part of Silver Planet's goal of helping guide readers through the maze of eldercare choices to make important decisions.
Life Events Media, an online provider of tools and guides for consumers over 50, has a suite of "locator" tools that display directory listings for key services on digital maps. The Silver Planet tool provides a bird's-eye view of the addresses and contact information for the more than 43,000 assisted living facilities in the United States.
"The mapped display of available facilities provides an innovative and practical way for users to easily find and compare assisted living facilities," said Tony Cook, president of Life Events Media. "We are delighted that Silver Planet has chosen to distribute this valuable information via the site's housing pages for the benefit of its members."
Information—including the locations of hospitals, clinics, and other relevant health industry providers—will continue to be added to the map.
"When older adults and their caregivers are looking for a new housing arrangement, they need to know what services are nearby," said Karen Klein, CEO of Silver Planet. "What makes this housing locator different is that it visually displays both the locations of the facilities and the surrounding resources. The map will continue to grow and offer more in the way of resources."
The partnership with Life Events Media builds on the comprehensive services that Silver Planet has been providing since 2008.

today are screened for hearing loss. The Marion Downs Hearing Center at
the University of Colorado Hospital – Anschutz Medical Campus in
Aurora, Colorado, was created to honor the legacy of Marion Downs. The
Center is recognized worldwide for its unique leadership and
