Incorporated in 1964, Camarillo, California, has evolved into a prosperous, thriving city that today is very much like its founders envisioned, dedicated to preserving its Spanish land grant heritage without sacrificing the economic growth that is vital to the city’s continued existence.

Located in the heart of Ventura County, Camarillo takes pride in its unparalleled quality of life and in its many attributes that have endured and strengthened throughout the years. Situated in the Oxnard Plain, just nine miles from the ocean, the city offers an appealing mix of both rural and suburban lifestyles.

Camarillo is midway between Los Angeles to the south and Santa Barbara to the north (on US Highway 101). Although the city is worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, there are a number of convenient transportation options to reach LA’s important business areas. A balanced approach to development and preservation is carefully cultivated by Camarillo’s officials, who work closely with local businesses, residents, and community leaders to maintain the qualities that make the city so attractive.

Camarillo is primarily a bedroom community made up of large housing tracts, with elementary schools and small strip malls serving the nearby neighborhoods. The incidence of all types of crime committed in the city is far below the national average.

Many sports leagues, including adult baseball, basketball, and football leagues, and the largest AYSO soccer league west of the Mississippi are located in Camarillo. An outdoor in-line hockey rink was recently put into Freedom Park, near the Camarillo Airport.
