Silver Star Betty Chinn a Finalist in MLB All-Stars Among Us Campaign

One of three nominees for the San Francisco Giants

Silver Star Betty ChinnLongtime members of Silver Planet may recall our 2009 story on Betty Chinn, who was chosen as a Silver Star for her 23 years of tireless work to alleviate the suffering of the homeless population in Eureka, California.

We're not the only ones who have been moved by her determination to help those in need. Major League Baseball, in conjunction with People magazine, has named Betty one of the 90 finalists in its second annual All-Stars Among Us campaign.

The purpose of the campaign is to promote and celebrate the work of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to help others in their communities. Each of the 30 MLB teams has three finalists, and voting to select each team's #1 All-Star lasts until June 30. Finalists receiving the most votes for each team will be honored at the MLB® All-Star Game® in Anaheim on July 13.

Chinn is a finalist for the San Francisco Giants, along with Lisa Busbee-Young of San Pablo and Danny Keith of Aptos.

”The inaugural All-Stars Among Us program last year made a significant impact on everyone involved and helped us increase awareness of the meaningful efforts of 30 great humanitarians,” Commissioner Bud Selig said in a press release. “We are proud to partner with People magazine again to acknowledge another team of inspirational heroes who deserve recognition for their important work.”
