Wanted: Outstanding Older Workers from Across the Country
Program acknowledges country’s top centenarian employee
Know a centenarian who is still working and deserves recognition? Nominate him or her for America’s Outstanding Oldest Worker for 2009, an annual award given by Experience Works, the nation’s largest training and employment organization for older workers. The search “is part of a national effort to raise awareness about the contributions older individuals make in today’s workplace and to break down barriers often associated with their employment,” according to the press release.
Silver Planet has written about the past two award winners: Mildred Heath, who won in 2008, and Ray Jenkins in 2007. Nominees must be 100 years of age or older, be employed at least 20 hours a week (for pay), and be agreeable to receiving public recognition for the award as well as traveling to Washington, D.C., in September to receive the award.
To nominate someone, fill out the Experience Works application. The deadline is June 1, 2009.
Experience Works is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of low-income older people through employment, community service, and training. For more information about its job programs, visit the Experience Works Web site or call (866) 397-9757.
