Pain, Pain Go Away
Diseases and Conditions
Most pain can be prevented by assessing the options available and adopting a
prudent treatment plan, says the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Pain management techniques vary greatly from controlled breathing during
childbirth to various pain relieving medications and even massage or music
therapy.
Pain produces a physical sensation, but it can also result in mental and
emotional suffering. Pain management professionals, including doctors, nurses,
physical therapists, and psychologists, employ both traditional and
nontraditional techniques to treat both the physical and emotional components of
pain.
Big girls may not cry and neither do “real men,” but smart patients ask these
questions—and want answers—about their pain:
- Why do I hurt?
- What medical treatments are available to treat my pain?
- What are the risks and side effects of this treatment plan?
- How long will this treatment plan last?
- Can alternative or natural remedies be substituted for or used with
traditional pain management?
