Question: We have quite the problem of deer browsing our garden and landscape. What are some practical ways to cope with this problem?

Answer: Deer have become a greater nuisance to gardeners throughout the country. As urban residential areas grow, they provide an ever-expanding buffet for deer, supplying easily obtainable food and helping them thrive. Deer love to nibble the delectable treats available in landscaped areas. Since hunting is not allowed near urban areas, the abandonment of this effective, time-honored method of controlling growing deer populations has resulted in too many deer that act more like grazing cattle, indifferent to our presence and content to munch your favorite rose bush down to leafless thorny stems. Their natural predators are long gone, so no help there. Also, in certain areas of the country, deer have become a problem because they carry ticks that cause Lyme’s disease.
