Caregiving

Independent Living Issue: Caregiving

Caregiving typically means assisting a frail loved one who needs help with activities of daily living, such as eating, bathing, dressing, using the bathroom, and getting in and out of bed.

Most definitions of the term now include a variety of additional assistance: helping with banking matters, driving to medical appointments, ensuring medications are properly taken, etc.

Care is usually done in a home setting and requires large amounts of time and energy for months or years, exacting an emotional, physical, and financial toll on caregivers and their families.
