More Colors of Love
As I reached into my bookcase for the whodunit I was itching to finish, my hand fell on a small book simply titled Love Poems, from the Everyman’s Library Pocket Poets Series. Published by Alfred A. Knopf and edited by Peter Washington, it is an interesting book filled with splendid, lesser-known poetry from a broad range of ancient cultures. It is a book I hadn’t opened in quite a while, and it beckoned to me to take a minute (before solving the murder) and read on. An ancient Chinese poem, translated by Arthur Waley, jumped out as a colorful feast for my imagination.
