It certainly took long enough for this movie to come to my hometown, but it finally got here—just in time to see it before the Academy Awards.
Yes, I’m talking about the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. What a super film—it's a love story, an adventure story, a story of compassion, and a story about survival—all rolled into one.
I don’t want to give too much away because the ending is wonderful, so suffice it to say that it’s the story of a young man who was orphaned early in the slums of Mumbai, India, and how he and his brother survived to adulthood. When the young man finds himself on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, the story flashes back to his earlier years, showing how this poorly educated kid learned the answers to the questions on this television show. I loved it.
Now, if you haven’t seen it yet, be sure you sit through the credits at the end—there’s a dance scene at the train station that shouldn’t be missed.
