This last week I was in the San Jose area on a school trip to visit the headquarters of Apple Computers. Our district is interested in getting laptops for the students at our high school—and all of that was really interesting and exciting, but I want to tell you about the food.
On the night we arrived, we ate at a brewery in Los Gatos. It had very good food, ranging from burgers to fresh fish. I made the decision to eat something I couldn’t get in my corner of the world, so I got Italian vegetable pancakes with beluga lentils and marinara sauce. They were very good, though it took me until the next morning to figure out why the lentils were beluga lentils—they looked like beluga caviar! Fortunately, the lentils didn’t taste like caviar.
At lunch the next day, we were treated to dining at the Apple cafeteria. Goodness, what a huge place. There was just about anything you’d like: fantastic salad bar, grill, burrito bar, risotto, vegetarian, brick oven pizza, Indian food, bananas foster. I decided that if I worked there, I could easily gain 20 pounds.
We also ate at a restaurant called The Basin in Saratoga. Once again, super food. This time I chose a dish called winter chicken, a chicken breast simmered in red wine with vegetables served on mashed potatoes. All of that good food was in addition to the lovely breakfast served at our hotel, The Inn at Saratoga. Fresh fruit, lovely pastries—oh, yes, and wine and cheese in the evenings. I highly recommend any of those places for an excellent meal.
