Omaha’s Jaipur Restaurant and Brewery

Great food and excellent beer

By Carla Hedstrom

I recently ate at a good restaurant in Omaha. If you like Indian food, you might want to try it. It’s called Jaipur, and it’s both a restaurant and a brewery.

I had a chicken dish made with coconut milk, red chiles, and spices—really good, especially served with the basmati rice. My friends and I also ordered some vegetable samosas, and they were delightfully crisp and stuffed with lovely cooked veggies.

One of the best parts of the meal was the naan (leavened flat bread), which had cashews and golden raisins in it. Of course, I had to order some dessert and settled on coconut ice cream, which we split. I have never had ice cream quite like this; it was cut in small squares and filled with fresh coconut—just lovely.

I did not sample the beer (not much of a beer drinker), but a friend who had an Indian pale ale said it was very good. I love the fact that Nebraska now has excellent restaurants that serve a variety of ethnic food. Yes, steaks and pork chops are wonderful, and Nebraska has some of the best, but a whole world of food is out there. Enjoy!
