Veracity of Company Financial Reports
Question: There’s an old saying that figures lie and liars figure. I get that feeling whenever I read company financial reports. How can I independently verify that a company isn’t blowing smoke up my skirt?
Answer: Unfortunately, without having access to a company “mole”—highly unlikely and probably illegal—there’s no foolproof way to know if all financial reports are completely candid. Your only real protection is to use multiple sources to fully research any company you’re considering.
