Lose a Friend, Lose a Book

Sometimes it’s best to just let things go

Eat Cake: A Novel

This month I’m reviewing a fun travel book complete with recipes. It brought to mind a book I’ve been looking for in my own collection, Jeanne Ray’s Eat Cake.

I’d loaned it to several friends and suspected it hadn’t been returned, but to whom did I lend it last? I’ve been asking around, and the general consensus is the last person to have it is no longer in touch with me. No big fight, just a difference of opinion—a small something that grew in her until she felt she was better off without my friendship. I feel bad about it, but sometimes it’s best to just let things go.

So . . . the other day I saw a copy and bought it, deciding to let the other book go and chalk it up to experience.

Now, what to try first? Almond Apricot Pound Cake with Amaretto or Black Espresso Cake with Bittersweet Glaze? Oh, wait, I’m still trying to finish up the Guinness brownies. Maybe next month!
