In a nontravel week, I have more time to speak to vendors, both prelaunch and launched. Here are three launched to add to the list of tech vendors to support caregiving (or "circle of care" as it is sometimes described). None require any specialized equipment or device in the home. And no doubt each would welcome your contacting them to learn more about their offerings:
GenerationsUnite: A spin-off of St. Louis, Missouri–based Cornerstone Solutions Group, provider of home care agency solutions, GenerationsUnite was launched to provide a portal for families, caregivers, and care providers to collaborate as a "community" to provide care for family members in need of care. The portal can be branded by home care agencies and integrated into their back-office systems, according to Alan Loveder, vice president of business development. Cornerstone Solutions Group works with several of the leading home care agencies.
eCare Diary: According to New York–based founders Susan Baida and John Mills, eCareDiary is a "website to provide caregivers and seniors all the tools, resources, and community support they need to manage care, including online sharable appointment/medication management, facilities search engine, database of legal documents by state, videos."
FineThanx: According to founder and chief technologist Peter Scharff, FineThanx is a telephone-based "automated wellness call" service that requires no equipment or setup and uses prerecorded messages transmitted to two phones at once (for example, home and mobile). If the call recipient answers, he or she is instructed to press 1 if all is okay. Pressing 2 is a request for assistance, and no response initiates a cycle of repeated calls at intervals, notifying a predesignated responder or set of responders.
